City of Split is tourist, economic and administrative center of Middle Dalmatia, souther region of Croatia, inhabited with cca. 200,000 people.
Thanks to it geographical location, it presents the ideal jump-off point for boat trips and other boat excursions aiming to explore amazing Adriaict coats and islands settled across the town. The aquatorium in front, with numerous islands, coves and bays present the best playground for speed boat activities. All of the islands are practically close one to another enabling you to explore them by renting a boat. It takes approximately 40 minutes to one hour to jump from island to island, from bay to bay. So, just by booking a single day boat excursion, you will have enough time to taste what Adriatic has to offer.
Regarding the Split city itself, it has to be pointed that it is and old city, more than 1700 years old. It was firstly inhabited by the Roman Emperor Diocletian in 305 AD when he choose this exact location to built the retirement place, actually a palace. So don’t get surprised when you hear how “palace gave birth to the city”. The palace stands today, incorporated as a part of city’s body.
During the past century, Split has been just a transfer point, a major hub for all those visiting Dalmatian islands. Split has the biggest passengers ferry port on this, eastern side of the Adriatic Sea.
During the late 90’s, Split slowly but stubbornly started its transformation from a transport hub to a major tourist hotspot worth visiting. Mostly private entrepreneurs initiate the transformation building small and big hotels and resorts. In favor of their idea goes the fact that Split has almost 15 kilometer of (mostly pebble) beaches. One of the most popular beaches in Split is located practically in the city center – Bacvice beach. It owes a lot to the fact it is located in the city center but also to the fact it is sand beach whose sand strip extends more than 100 meters in the sea, making it perfect for different kind of water sports.
Last few years, the town became extremely popular destination among the young population because of the fact it hosts the world biggest and most popular music event – ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL. For this year, for example, the organizers announced they expect more than 200.000 visitors from all over the world. 3 nights of partying with world famous DJs will extend to almost 7 nights of pure dance pleasure as the ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL will, hit the Islands infornt of Split: Brač, Hvar and Vis. So, for all those who found accommodation in the city but would also love to go to the island parties – have no fear – there is a solution. Book a boat transfer or even better, a speedboat day trip and spend whole day swimming and sunbathing and in the evening…well, just prepare to party!
